Newstalk 93 Fm aims to foster an environment of growth, educational and informative programmes to assist in the development of our nation. Great thrust is made to of engage university students to hone their voices and talents to better serve and strengthen the region.

History of Newstalk 93 Fm...

the voice of the UWI

Newstalk 93 Fm, previously known as Radio Mona, was established in 1996 from the idea of Principal Sir Kenneth Hall who saw the importance of broadcast radio and the impact radio made on American campuses.


As the first university radio station in Jamaica, the then Radio Mona, quickly rose to fame with the popularity of its 'talk radio' reaching far and wide across Jamaica. The voice of the UWI was introduced to Jamaicans through the hosts introducing them to academia and, research through full discussions on various current affairs topics.


After 27 years, Newstalk 93 FM, is owned and operated by the University of the West Indies providing a space for University stakeholders to have their topics of interested 'heard everywhere',

Our Programmes

Woman Up (Wednesday’s (8pm – 10pm)


Woman Up hosted by the Energy Queen Isheba Cornwall where she aims to tackle the overall problem of Gender Inequality amongst young women ages 16-29 in Jamaica. Through weekly conversations varied topics ranging from adulating 101 tips to how they can up-skill themselves will be discussed. This serves as a medium to educate, inspire and motivate women in Jamaica to dream big, and to use the things they have learnt from “Woman Up” to build a better Jamaica.


Preke Town Book Club ( Sunday 6pm – 7pm)


Hosted by Jamaican author Gary O.Thompson, the book club airs Sundays 6pm to 7pm. The programme leads a weekly dive into cross-cultural literature as they explore both fictional and non- fictional books that can be accesses and appreciated by local readership. The listeners and readers have an avenue through which to participate by calling in,texting and emailing in the book reviews and discussions continually between shows.


Just Talking Love (Sunday’s 7pm – 9pm)


A Uniquely positive Sunday evening programme that is simply love. Dr Fabian Stewart simply speaks to love; he explores various types of love by engaging in discussions and experiences of callers and subscribers. He brings the audience on a magical journey of love through music and the spoken word.
